Female Hair Transplant, Female Hair Transplant Before And After

Female Hair Transplant, stress, menopause, taking certain medications, too violent brushing, Female Hair Transplant Before And After, extensions, too tight hairstyles, or quite simply hereditary ground… And here we are with a calamitous hair capital.

What, in a man, is unpleasant, is often experienced for us women as a real aesthetic drama. What if we had Female Hair Transplant? The number of interventions of this kind has tripled since 2004, and today concerns nearly 15% of women.

A hair transplant, yes but for whom?

Female Hair Transplant concerns all those of us who can no longer manage to comb our hair, whose skin on the skull is visible in certain places, whose forehead is thinning, who see our temples. In short, who is losing our hair, inexorably?

In practice, during a Female Hair Transplant, the hair is removed with its follicle. Thus it is autonomous and keeps all its characteristics: shape, volume, color… Whatever the technique used by our surgeon, preparation is essential before the intervention. Also, we stop minoxidil-based lotions a month before to avoid the risk of bleeding and we use an antiseptic shower gel 48 hours before.

Be careful, in case of chemotherapy which would have destroyed our bulb, the transplant is not possible for several years.

Two effective techniques for new hair

To date, two hair transplant techniques have proven themselves:

  • Strip grafting: the most reliable

This intervention is the oldest. It is intended for significant alopecia.

On the belly and under local anesthesia, we shave the sampling area, the length of the hair there should not exceed approximately 1 mm.

We are taken from the trimmed area (the occipital region in general) a strip of scalp from 2 cm up to 25 cm long if necessary; i.e. an area of 50 cm2. Knowing that there are generally 100 hairs per cm2.

The practitioner then cuts out grafts of 1 to 3 hairs which he reimplants by making small orifices with a needle in the bald area, respecting the natural implantation of my hair.

The sampling strip is then closed with threads or staples that will be removed after two weeks.

Advantages: nearly 6,000 hairs can be transplanted in a session of 3 to 5 hours. The cost of the intervention per hair is lower than for the second technique (between 5,000 and 6,000 €).

Disadvantages: The scar a few millimeters wide can be visible, but it is easy to hide if you have hair long enough to be rolled over. You can also have a temporary drop in sensitivity at the top of the skull if the incision has cut the nerves that go up from the neck to the top of the skull. A few days of rest are to be expected.

The consequences: a slight pain. We go out with a bandage on our heads to avoid possible bleeding during the night.

Follicular extraction (FUE): the most recent

This intervention, ideal for small and medium alopecia, consists of taking micro-grafts about 1 mm in diameter directly from the skull (or anywhere on the body).

On the belly and under local anesthesia, we shave the donor area to 1 mm to see the emergence of the hair and its implantation.

Each removed graft may contain 1 to 3 hairs. Then, in a seated position this time, we underwent local anesthesia in the area to be implanted, with a microblade or a needle.

The session can last from 3 to 5 hours maximum, depending on the number of hairs to be transplanted.

Advantages: no staples or sutures. Healing is rapid and discreet. The cost is lower than the previous technique (between 4,000 and 5,000 € for a session).

Disadvantages: it is a very technical intervention, and the practitioner chosen must be experienced. The number of grafted hairs is lower than for the strip graft.

The consequences: we go out with a bandage, to be removed the next day, to avoid bleeding during the night. Little pain, can be relieved by an analgesic and an anti-inflammatory. You can resume normal life the next day.

After a transplant, we remain vigilant…

  • We can get our hair the next day, being careful not to rub the grafts for three weeks. It is possible to use a mild shampoo after five days.
  • It is thought to hydrate the grafts well to avoid scabs and accelerate healing.
  • We avoid intense efforts for ten days and obviously, we refuse any hair dye before a month.
  • If the need to dye our hair arises, we plan ahead and do it up to 48 hours before the procedure.

Female Hair Transplant

The definitive correction of female androgenetic alopecia requires capillary implantation adapted to the recognized stages. She will also be treated medically, after a session of grafts, to normalize the still persistent hair loss.

Hair examinations and in particular the multifactorial classification makes it possible to precisely diagnose each type of female alopecia and to establish a medical treatment.

This classification uses multiple parameters:

  • measurement of bald and hairy areas
  • suppleness and thickness of the scalp
  • growth rate and hair color
  • stem density, diameter, shape, and length

There are clinically three stages of androgenetic alopecia (according to the Ludwig classification):

  1. Stage 1: moderate lightening on the top of the head respecting the frontal border.
  2. Stage 2: frank alopecia with short hair and located 1 cm behind the frontal line.
  3. Stage 3: almost complete thinning with retention of a thin strip of hair at the forehead.

IN MENOPAUSAL WOMEN HAIR TRANSPLANT

Faced with androgenetic alopecia in postmenopausal women, we will choose the implantation of a FUL (long hair) Female Hair Transplant combined with treatment with minoxidil 2% and possibly associated with hormone replacement therapy. One hair transplant session is most often enough, but 2 to 3 sessions may sometimes be necessary for stage 3 alopecia.

Often associated with men, hair loss also affects a large number of women. However, the rarefaction does not occur in the same way and evolves according to the Ludwig scale in 3 distinct stages. Thus, women can also perform a Female Hair Transplant using the FUE method and the same techniques as the intervention performed on a man.

In women, hair loss can appear around their twenties, but for 40% of them, hair loss appears during hormonal changes. In this way, the hair thins and weakens on the top of the skull, revealing the scalp.

The different causes of hair loss in women

There are many causes related to hair loss in women. Indeed, hormonal imbalances are the main culprits, such as childbirth, menopause, or pregnancy. However, they are not the only causes of this hair loss. Thus, emotional shocks, trauma, stress, or taking medication can incur the loss of hair density.

In addition, there is also hereditary hair loss, a factor impacting both women and men. As its name suggests, it can observe a gradual decrease in hair mass in adults, mainly.

The different techniques of hair implantation

Faced with the rise of hair implants, new techniques have emerged: namely, the techniques used are the same for female and male Female Hair Transplant.

The FUT method

The FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) method, also called the strip method, is the cutting of the scalp by several centimeters, in the donor area at the back of the skull. Then, this strip is cut under a microscope to extract the follicular units, comprising 1 to 4 hairs each. Finally, the follicular units are sorted and then re-implanted into the sparse area. The strip is closed with stitches for an overall intervention of 3 to 5 hours.

The FUE method

The FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) technique allows a more discreet and delicate intervention. Indeed, the follicular units, that is to say, the hair + the bulb, are extracted 1 by 1 using a stylet. Then, in the same way as the FUT, the grafts are sorted, then reimplanted manually by the medical specialist.

The diameter of the stylus allows greater precision, for a natural and harmonious result. In this way, the intervention can last between 3 to 8 hours, depending on the number of grafts to be implanted.

How is the operation carried out?

  1. Step 1: capillary assessment and evaluation of the donor area
  2. Step 2: drawing the hairline and the sampling area
  3. Step 3: anesthesia
  4. Step 4: a collection of follicular units according to the FUE method
  5. Step 5: sorting the grafts
  6. Step 6: Planting the grafts
  7. Step 7: post-operative control and follow-up of the regrowth stages

Is a hair operation more complicated for women than for men?

Like men, women are increasingly using hair implants. Today, more than 15% of the female population has had recourse to this intervention to solve their baldness. Therefore, it is clearly noticeable that a hair transplant, whether in a woman or in a man, remains the same operation. It is therefore not more complicated for a woman.

In which cases is a female hair transplant not possible?

As for men, this type of operation is mostly always possible for women. However, there are some exceptions to the rule, especially if the baldness is too extensive, if the donor area is not dense enough or if the patient is not in good health.

When to do a female hair transplant?

From the age of 18, women may present with androgenetic alopecia of the forehead and vertex regions (top of the head) which may justify a hair transplant.

How is a female hair transplant performed?

A hair transplant session (or hair implantation) in women is completely painless. It takes place under local anesthesia and lasts about 3 hours. There is no hospitalization, the patient goes home without a dressing. Professional recovery is possible within a few days.

What is the lifespan of a hair transplant?

As part of a hair transplant, the implanted hair will resume its normal growth cycle and will thus have a lifespan identical to the hair present in the donor area.

What age for a hair transplant?

Regardless of your age, you are eligible for hair transplantation, provided you are of legal age and in good health. However, as a precaution and as a recommendation, our specialists suggest reaching the age of 30 for men who have not yet fully stabilized their hormonal activity.

How to fight against baldness in women?

The reference treatment remains minoxidil which gives results after several months. Baldness is less common in women and instead presents as diffuse hair loss which very rarely leads to complete baldness.

What causes hair loss in women?

Hair loss can be caused by infectious diseases, thyroid problems or iron deficiency, especially in women with heavy periods. But it can also be of genetic origin or caused by excess testosterone, naturally a little more present on the skin of some women.

When to worry about female hair loss?

Temporary hair loss lasts about 3 months. If it lasts more than 6 months and is accompanied by a loss of capillary density, consider consulting.
