Sometimes it happens that despite the use of particularly scented products, when we take the laundry out of the washing machine, the smell isn’t actually that pleasant. This occurs because the washing machine also needs cleaning and maintenance between the limescale released and the detergent residues. Let’s find out all the natural remedies to clean it perfectly without corroding something!
How to clean the washing machine from limescale and detergent residues
Sometimes what we need are absolutely natural remedies such as:
- White vinegar
- sodium bicarbonate
- lavender essential oil
These three very simple ingredients will help you deep clean your washing machine in a natural way, without leaving bad smells on the laundry, avoiding limescale and dirt deposits and preserving the essential parts of the appliance over time. All you need to do is adopt a few useful precautions.
How to clean the washing machine
You can carry out an empty washing cycle with white vinegar once a month.
- pour 2 liters of white vinegar diluted with a little water directly into the drum
- add 10 drops of lavender essential oil
- start a long enough washing program at a temperature above 60°
- you can also add 1 tablespoon of baking soda to enhance the effect
- sanitizer and degreaser of vinegar.
The vinegar smell will completely disappear during washing thanks to the action of lavender essential oil. The result will be a shiny and sanitized drum, limescale-free pipes and a pleasant lavender scent. White wine vinegar disinfects everything and completely eliminates bad smells.
Clean the gasket and the basket
To get a clean basket you can proceed as follows:
- pour 1 glass of white wine vinegar into the detergent drawer
- start the wash cycle by letting the washing machine work for a few minutes and then pause for an hour
- restart the set program until completion
Equally important is the periodic cleaning of the filter which must be performed at least once a month.
Rinse the filter directly under running water and use a toothbrush to remove stubborn dirt and other impurities. The same brush will come in handy for carefully cleaning the rubber seals and the most difficult corners of the porthole.
How to clean internal components
There are several components of the washing machine that need to be cleaned because they accumulate more limescale. You should leave them to soak for a few hours in a basin full of hot water and vinegar in equal parts. Complete the cleansing with a sponge and put the external parts back in their housing.
